1 Devonshire Road, Cambridge, CB1 2BH
This is the first pub I went to after moving to Cambridge. In fact it was the day we moved in and I was exhausted from packing at the other end for the last 3 days, driving the 100 miles from the south to the east and unloading in our new home. So I wanted a BIG meal, and I got a big meal.
The pub has an excellent selection of local ales, mainly from the Milton Brewery in North Cambridge and seems to attract a more alternative crowd, without being too exclusive, so I didn’t feel out of place. We visited the Devonshire again at the weekend for a non-traditional Sunday lunch and once again were thoroughly impressed by the food. We both had burgers, Joe the piri piri chicken burger and me the classic beef, bacon and cheese.
The potato wedges were amazing and there was absolutely no shortage of them, in fact I left a decent portion’s worth and still ate over half! The burger itself was delicious, succulent and flavoursome, and the salad was substantial and varied – a rarity! Joe’s chicken burger contained about 2 breasts worth of freshly grilled chicken and was bursting with flavour.
I really ought to branch out and try something different next time, but if you are looking for an incredibly satisfying burger that is guaranteed to be amazing, then head to the Devonshire!
